90 minute workshop. Shimmy Variations & Layering Drills--There are as many shimmies as there are dancers! Learn a few new ones and bring your shimmy-layering challenges. We'll break them down into practicable drills to add to
your regular practice routine. Intermediate/Advanced Veil Work--Advanced veil tricks, plus tools you need to create your own veil solo. Selecting appropriate music, traveling with the veil, executing extended spins and turns with grace

Turns & Traveling: Making Use of the Stage--Entrances, exits, and where you stand on the stage and how you get there can make or break a performance. What are the messages you sending? Does your movement convey what the music is saying? Are you in possession of the stage, or just renting a space there? These are things that separate the professional dancer from the hobbyist-- so how do you want to be perceived? Balancing and Sword Techniques--So you can balance the sword on your
head. Now what? This workshop will help your balancing act look like a dance instead of a circus performer doing tricks. Bring a sword or a tray and votive candles, or other item you would like to work with. Unraveling Arabic Music: Rhythm and Musicality--This class focuses on understanding how to truly hear the music, pick out the rhythms, separate the musical phrases, and learn to translate what you hear into movement that fits the music. If you have a particular piece of
music that baffles you, bring it along! Staging and Choreography for Groups or Solos--Why does one choreography grab your attention and hold it, while another leaves you yawning? How does group choreography differ from solo? How do you move people around seamlessly and keep dancers from bumping into one another? What do you do when dancers are not at the same skill levels? How do you adjust the choreography for different venues or when someone doesn't show up? These are some of the questions that will be covered in this 90 minute workshop for intermediate to advanced dancers.
Costume Clinic--Do you have a costume that doesn't fit you quite right? Do you have an old or inexpensive costume that needs a make-over? Are you looking for a "show-stopper" costume, but can't find one that fitsyour budget? Do you want to make your own "dream costume" but you don't know how to begin? Are you ready for your first costume and notsure what to look for and how to choose one? Do you need tips on "oops!" proofing your costumes and dressing to prevent spillage,
shifting, etc? Register for this workshop, bring your costuming questions, problems and ideas and we'll get your costume wardrobe on-track for the "gasp factor!" All levels welcome. Seven Veils--Challenge your veil skills by doubling up! There is nothing like veils for giving you the flash and pizzazz you need to quickly grab attention in a large venue. In this workshop we will
learn several ways to drape, remove, match and manipulate 2 veils. Please wear clothing that allows you to tuck the veil in securely at the hips and shoulders. Bring veils to class if you have them. advanced dancers.

The Art of Seduction
This class focuses on improving your romantic relationships through a variety of channels, including belly dance. Lots of improvisation, veil work, floor work and energy work. We will also touch on costuming and creating an atmosphere. This is certainly not a "stripper" or "pole dance" class. Rather, it explores and accentuates the undeniably sensual aspects of belly dance that have been part of its mystic for millennia. To deny this side of the dance would be to reduce it to an aerobic exercise. Instead, you will learn to share your passion for belly dance with the special man in your life, allowing him to share in your passion for the dance. This class does not run every session. The Art of Seduction will next be presented as a two part workshop on February 1 & 8, just in time for Valentine's Day. If you are interested in attending this class but it is not listed on the current session schedule please contact The Saltwater Gypsy's about adding a new class time for you and some of your friends. Check the Saltwater Gypsy's calendar; this class also occasionally runs as two 90 minute workshops at The Saltwater Gypsy's studio.

This class is also available in one-time seminar format for a goddess party, bachelorette party, wedding shower or girl's night out.

Health Facts of Belly Dance

Belly dance is very good for women’s health. It provides a better circulation and blood flow in the dancing areas and thus helps many women who suffer from PMS and other menstrual discomfort. During a dance course you learn a new way of breathing, which you don’t practice in everyday life. This breath type is used by singers and wind instruments players and is the base of the belly dance (for example, during the abdominal undulation the dancer focuses on breath, but not on moving the muscles). Belly dancers need to breathe with their bellies, not lungs, and this brings more oxygen to the internal organs.

Dancing provides a good cardiovascular workout and increases flexibility and strength. It means the ability of moving different muscles or muscle groups independently. You build arm, finger, shoulder and general upper-body strength. It’s excellent for all ages and body types. The muscles of the body also become stronger and look more attractive.

Many women complain that when they walk or run, their belly starts to shake and it looks disgusting and sometimes it can even make some feel depressed, because they don’t know, how to get rid of the belly fat. Belly dance is the only action where a shaking belly is beautiful. Let your belly dance!

1.Belly dance is a wonderful, low-impact workout you can do throughout your life. It's blessedly easy on joints and offers a great way to work and stretch muscles in the torso, hips, thighs, glutes--and oh yes, the belly, too. (Get ready to develop muscles you didn’t even know you have!).

 2. Gentle undulations provide a healthy squeeze and release of internal organs. This stimulates the glands to produce a fresh batch of hormones which get secreted into the blood stream (promoting hormone re balancing--good news for women!)

 3. Three minutes or more of shimmies per day also stimulates the body’s lymphatic system to release waste products. But the lymph system must have an outside stimulus to accomplish this. The rhythmic vibration of shimmies does the trick!

 4. Belly dance makes you feel good and keeps you ageless! Many of the world's best known belly dancers are still performing in their sixties. It keeps the juices flowing—and it makes your smile real!
